Calling It

As of September 22 2013 I am calling potty training a win! We made it through the zoo in panties (we hit every bathroom in the park just to be safe), but I think 3 days in panties equals potty trained. We aren't brave enough to go bare t night or naptime, but I am ok with that. It lets me hold on to my girl being a baby for a little longer.

Mckinley started going on the potty around 16 months. We never wanted to push her because I knew she would go when she was ready, but he kind of took to it. Some weeks she would go all if the time an other weeks she wouldn't want anything to do with it so we just went at her pace. It wasn't until this summer that we started pitying on a pretty consistent basis because we were home a lot more and we went pants off dance off when we were at home. I actually feel like this just d if hindered our progress because anytime I did put pants or a diaper on the girl she would just get lazy and just go.

Finally last week we took her to pick out some big girl panties and she went traight for the Sesams St. pack and there was no going back. I sent Mckinley to Mrs. Julie's in panties and a few backup diapers and after 1 little accident we were good to go!

So we have been in panties since Friday and except for a puddle on Papa and Yaya's back porch we have been in panties ever since. We still wear our cloth trainers because I sure do t have time to take apart the entire car seat and wash it. I am thinking about hitting up Babies Are Us since I need to return some stuff and get ahead on my Christmas shopping and picking up one of them thar car seat pads.

I may or may not have gotten a little sad when my girl put her own panties on all by herself. I stil can't believe my little squishy punkin head is a big girl panty wearing 2 year old. Good news I can now say put on your big girl panties and deal with it and really mean it! Her booty looks so tiny without her big ole fluffy bum.

Summer Fun

I hope someday to get back to regular blogging, but we have just been having too much fun this summer!
I can honestly say 2 or I guess almost 2 is a blast! Definitely my favorite age so far!

I have a ton of pictures to load from my phone of all of our pool, 4th, and other adventures, but for now here is a little taste.

This girl has turned into a fish! Sadly I have no swimming pics because I am always in with her.

We have been trying to stay pretty healthy and we couldn't let and entire half of a watermelon go to waste so we made fresh watermelon pops. They are delicious!

Yaya took us to the Garden Playground and Papa didn't want to miss out on all of the fun. I can't begin to tell you how much this picture melts my heart!

Getting rid of a little energy with some crib trampolining.

We have also been doing a lot of potty training these past few weeks. We got brave and have been going pants off dance off style and my girl has become quite the nudist. The Little Lady has been doing awesome and goes without even being prompted. Sadly when she has pants on that is a whole other story. I think the security of having something on makes her forget to run to the potty, but she is getting really good at controlling it. I think we are at ahead of the game since the monkey isn't even 2 yet so I am not to worried.

I hope everyone else is enjoying their summer as much as we are.

I just realized Baby Girl is wearing the same brown Elephant or Epelant as she calls them tank in almost every picture and yes these were all taken on different days. This has become one of our favorite summer tops and we are so thankful to the French clan to passing us down some awesome stuff. This is also our go to potty top. Some part of her body has to be covered if her bum is gonna be out all day long!

Baby No More

I just have to brag on my girl once again because she not only slept without a paci last night, but she also woke up with a dry diaper for the second time.

I am SO freaking excited about both of these things, but my Mama heart is breaking a little because this is just 2 more things that make my girl a big girl and not a baby anymore.

I love you more than double stuffed oreos (and that's a lot) my little kitten.

The Miles Go By

Just in case this doesn't happen again for a while I wanted to document what I think is a pretty big milestone!
Mckinley woke up dry this morning after sleeping from 8:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.!!! We have been so hit or miss with pottying these days that i was shocked to take off a non pee soaked 20 pound diaper. She is actually wearing the same diaper again tonight and I am hoping since she peed so much in the diaper I changed her out of and then peed on the potty right before going down that she will once again wake up dry as a bone.

One more thing I just had to write down before I forget it how much I love it when she says Thank You. We have really worked on her saying please when she wants something and not screaming to get what she wants and then saying thank you after. I love that I rarely have to prompt her to say with now, but it is her little "Tank You" that just melts my Mama heart. She is wild, but she is wonderful.

One last brag on my girl because as a preschool teacher one of my main goals is to prepare my babies to be successful in Kindergarten and writing is a big skill we teach. It amazed me that my girl just naturally held her crayons correctly. I honestly believe those giant crayons and markers are crap and they are what screws up kids grip. So from a preschool teacher who teaches handwriting the smaller the writing utensil the better. Go out and get your kids some crayons and break them in thirds and then let them color because that will teach them the correct grip because the smaller the piece the lower they have to hold the utensil and they have to use their fingertips and not their fists.

My big girl loves to color at her big girl desk. And then she loves to tump over the entire desk and throw all of her crayons on the couch to watch them bounce.
Fun times. Fun times.

Too Fast

I knew things had changed after asking my girl to sit down on the couch and she responded with a pretty resounding "No" as she continued to run and jump thinking herself oh so hilarious.  As shocked as I was by her answer I decided to give her a choice just like I do my babies at school. I calmly said "You have 2 choices. You can sit down or you will have to get down. Sit down please". She of course looked at me and laughed as she continued jumping so I nicely picked her up and placed her on the floor. She wasn't happy and she may not have completely understood my words, but she understood "I am not supposed to stand/jump on the couch and if I do I have to get down". That conversation right there people absolutely broke my heart because it suddenly made me realize my baby isn't a baby anymore and she actually understands what I am saying to her and can respond and make choices. Mama mind blown!!

It is so strange how these milestones always catch me so off guard. I know she is growing up and soaking everything up like a sponge, but it is too much for this Mama to accept that her baby isn't a baby anymore. Now don't get excited about me having another baby anytime soon because that won't happen for quite some time no matter how many people keep telling me we need to hurry up and get on it before she gets too old. I am enjoying my time with my girl way too much right now and then just the thought of being pregnant scares the ever living daylights out of me. Plus I know myself and my limits and our family is doing really good with where we are at right now and we want to wait a little while longer.

For 1 thing I did not enjoy being pregnant one bit. I think I can honestly say I hated every aspect of it except the end result and I am not looking forward to doing it again any time soon. We actually had to rethink our #2 timeline because we always said when Mckinley was potty trained we would start trying again. We were thinking she would be 100% done by 3 so if we started trying by her third birthday we would have #2 a little before she was 4 which sounded great to me. Well as you may or may not know Mckinley has actually started potty training and we are no where near being fully trained, but getting them to go is half the battle so we are at least half way there and the child isn't even 2 yet!We honestly didn't expect her to start the potty process so early so we retract our previous statement because no one especially me wants to see this anytime soon!

Potty training is such a huge milestone in my book and that got me thinking about other milestones my girl has achieved and since I am not doing a great job keeping up with her monthly posts I thought it would be fun to document where she is right now before she is a year and a half!

Mckinley at 17 Almost 18 Months
We are still rolling along with this whole potty training thing. I try to stay on top of # 2 since I love not having to spray out too many diapers anymore, but I am not pushing #1. If she goes she goes and we celebrate each time she sits on the potty. We sit, wipe, flush, YAY! I don't want her to ever feel like pottying is a "bad thing" by pushing her if she isn't ready and just like everything else we try to follow her cues for when she is ready for the next step. She does a pretty good job telling me when she has to go poop (bend over, grab crotch, yell I POOP!) and I scoop her up and we run to the potty and most times she will do this when she just has to tee tee (Yup we say tee tee and i may or may not have said this when I have had to go). I usually just say "It is time to go potty" or "let's go potty" and she usually enthusiastically runs to the bathroom where ever we are, but every now and then usually in the morning she just does not want to go and will fuss, but it is usually pretty easy to get her in the bathroom and sitting down. Now actually getting her to go potty is sometimes another story. Sometimes she has already gone in her diaper/trainer, but we sit anyways just because. We actually just got her new Best Bottom Training Pants which we are using with our Small Best Bottom Liners and we are absolutely LOVING them! They make the process of going potty so much easier because we don't have to take her diapers on and off. I am itching to buy another pair or 2, but we will wait until we are really 100% training. We are also loving our Arm and Hammer Potty Seat that goes on the actual potty because she can't get down on her own. Maybe once we get her Trainers and she can pull her own pants down we can pull out the ole Froggy Potty again.
We don't do potty treats, but our sweet babysitter likes to make my life miserable fun by sending home suckers in Kinley's bag so she gets one every now and then for special treats and what's better than toilet time with a lolly.

We no longer have a high chair and have officially moved into a booster seat at the table. Mckinley is doing pretty good eating off of her divided trays from Target until she is done eating and starts sliding her tray all over the table. She is also doing pretty good with using a fork to feed herself, but she usually gets tired of it or wants to eat faster than it allows and starts shoveling the food in with her hands. The spoon is another story, but we have our Squooshi Reusable Food Pouches which make those foods much easier to eat.

Mckinley is 100% my child when it comes to her demeanor, eating habits, and her speech. What can I say my girl is a talker. Brent and I sat down the other day and wrote down all of the words/phrases she consistently says.   She will repeat pretty much anything you ask her to say now, but these are the words she actually says.

That 's about 50 words she says on a daily basis! Not bad for a peanut.

She is still a fantastic eater and sometimes I side eye her at her food choices at particular times of the day. For example, the other night for dinner she had black beans, shoe peg corn, creamy garlic pasta, edemame, and a bite of steak and after barely touching her delicious waffle this morning she begged for black beans! She is still iffy on chewy meats because she doesn't have the molars just yet to chew it, but she loves those Perdue lightly breaded chicken strips and chicken patties and her ground turkey meat so we can always find something for her to eat. She would eat a spicy black bean burger over a real burger any day, but as long as she is eating a healthy balanced diet I am happy. Usually what ends up happening is whatever Mama or Daddy is eating she wants and I am not complaining because she has greatly cut my portion sizes which I think is the main reason I have lost a few lbs. so I am not complaining about my good eater.

We are kind of sort of in 18 month clothes, but the curse of the shortness means we can still fit in most 12 month pants and we might still rock 1 pair of 9 month jeggings because they look like little hipster skinny jeans and yes I know we aren't hipsters, but they are just so cute on her fluffy bum. My mom called me the other day to ask me to go through a box of smocked dresses to pull out some jumpers to bring with us when we came over in case she wanted to change her when she was keeping her. Needless to say my mother doesn't care for how I dress my child, but if her choice in Easter dress says anything I am ok in my decisions and my girl is always clean, cute, and comfortable with a big giant bow to top it all off.

I just cut Kinley's bangs for the third time the other day while she sat on the potty and Daddy was holding her hands down which caused a few shrieks, but you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. We actually already had her first haircut at Ya Ya's house a few weeks ago and yes we saved the baby mullet she cut off and yes Ya Ya you were right it does look much better since we cut it.

Sleeping sucks right now. It is very hit or miss and some nights I feel like we have a new born again. Ok it's not as bad as a newborn, but when you are used to sleeping all night and then your child starts waking up once or twice a night you feel like a walking zombie. I would rather just stay up all night then have interrupted sleep. I know all of this is because she has molars coming in and she goes back down after a little milk or water, but I need my good sleeper back. These teeth need to hurry it on up and come on in. I can actually feel a big ole molar on the bottom right and I am not looking forward to next week because I know we won't be sleeping for a few night. Thankfully we have a brand new bottle of infant pain reliever and Hyland's tablets and gel ready and waiting for any middle of the night screaming fits.

I can't believe we are so close to the One and a Half mark! She will be closer to 2 than 1 in just a few days!!!!!!!!!! That is just too much for my brain to process right now. Even though I will be sad to be celebrating this milestone it will make it a little better since we have decided we will be celebrating all 1/2 birthdays by a visiting our favorite Donut shop down the street. Mckinley actually had her first doughnut yesterday at Dunkin Donuts when they gave her her own little jelly filled munchkin which she took a bite or 2 of and then promptly started throwing around, but it was pretty cute seeing her holding her own mini doughnut.

No matter how sad I am that my baby is quickly turning into a real grown up person I am getting pretty excited to start planning another birthday. And I am so glad I already found my Inspiration Piece to work from

and Kristi at Best Impressions Paperie has already started working on the invitations and they are ABSOLUTELY PRECIOUS! I am so glad to have these 2 things out of the way and since this year things will be much simpler I have most of the hard work done.

Man writing all of this down makes me realize how much my girl has changed from this time last year to now.
Oh my wild child how I Love and adore you!

Weekend Thoughts

I'm not sure if it is the oh so sweet way my girl says and signs please when she wants something or the fact that I have only had to change her 3 times today because she has been going potty that makes me love my girl more.

To Potty or Not To Potty that Is The Question

This whole potty training thing is throwing me for a loop! I wasn't ready for this! I didn't think it would start this early! My BABY isn't ready for this!! Or maybe mama is not ready for this. Either way I never thought this would be happening so soon.

Ever since she started telling us she pooped I kept telling Brent we should get a potty just to keep around so she could get used to seeing it when she was ready to start using it. I never imagined she would actually use it the day we brought it home! And I never thought she would be pooping in the darn thing (I warned you there would be some poo posts) I can honestly say #2 is way easier because there are so many warning signs when she needs to go. Many of you may know we use cloth diapers and I have heard from many cloth mama's that potty training cloth babies is easier because they can actually feel the wetness of the diaper meaning they realize when they are wet and I truly believe this now.

She loves sitting on the potty and gets so excited to go and she even has her little routine down. Go potty, wipe, flush. We wipe every time she sits even if she doesn't go just to stay in the routine, but she really gets it and yes she wipes all by herself and it is hilarious to see this little tiny peanut doing such a grownup thing.

We have tried wearing panties a few times, but neither of us are quite ready for that just yet. I think once she realizes what the urge to go feels like we can move on to panties, but until then I am thinking about getting some sort of trainers. Maybe some of these Best Bottom Trainers since we already have the inserts.

We might even try something a little different to see what we like and works best for us. Just like cloth diaper options there are so many trainer options to consider. There are trainers with side snaps, flexible panels to make it easier to pull up and down, and then there are regular ole cloth trainers. I will of course be searching Diaper Swappers and Spots Corner for better prices and if experience has taught me anything the older and more loved a cloth diaper the more absorbent they become which I am hoping goes for trainers too.

For now we will just stick with our Froggy Potty

I wasn't planning on buying one of each, but once I realized someone thought jumping up off of the potty half neked to run around the house and peeing on the floor was an awesome game I decided I needed something she couldn't get off of without some awesome acrobatics. I have also found this seat is travel friendly and I like that it is a hard plastic which is much easier to clean than those squishy seats. They may be a little more comfortable, but all I saw was a cute colorful germ farm. We took this seat with us yesterday to my parents house and my mom has taken it with her today. Yes you heard that right my mom is feeling so good she came by and picked up Mckinley and took her to her house so I can clean. I am afraid she is going to wear herself out, but she is kind of stubborn (wonder where I get it from) and demanded to take her and her overnight things just in case they decided to keep her.

We are so so lucky to have such amazing grandparents for our little lady. We are also so lucky that everyone is here and well this Christmas and that is the only gift I need this year well that and maybe a potty trained munchkin. I doubt she will be completely trained so fast, but a mama can dream can't she?? I guess we need to jump back on the getting rid of the paci train now that we aren't out of town. I have already cut of the tips of each paci and they barely have any suction, but she still wants the darn thing to fall asleep. I keep telling myself one milestone at a time and I would rather have pooing on the potty over no paci any day.

So I Guess We Have Started Potty Training

I have been telling Brent that we should get Mckinley a potty. She all of a sudden started saying "I pooped" and about 80% of the time she had actually pooped! We have used cloth diapers almost since the day we brought her home and I read everywhere that cloth diapered babies tend to potty train earlier because they can feel the wetness, but I honestly did not expect her to even enjoy sitting on the potty much less pee on it  times!

We picked up the Fisher Price Froggy Potty today at Babies R US/Toys R Us. We went to get a Christmas gift for a friend and figured while we were there we would get our potty. The Froggy potty was so cute and the price was just right at $12.99. I just couldn't justify spending $30 on something my child would pee and poo on. We went back and forth about getting a potty chair or a seat that went on the potty with a stool and came to the conclusion that she might enjoy something she could do by herself since she is such an independent lady.

We didn't get top try it out until we got home from Brent's parents house and the Little needed a bath so as I was skinning the rabbit I sat her on the potty. She thought it was hilarious!! After she sat for a minute she got up and tried to climb into the bath tub (she LOVES taking baths) and then all of a sudden she started trying to climb back on her froggy backwards so I picked her up and placed her on facing the right way and all of a sudden she peed a little and then after sitting a few more seconds she actually pottied!!! I started clapping and laughing hysterically!! She had been playing with her light up snowman toy and now it has become her potty toy. It entertains her long enough to get her to sit still. So we  clapped and laughed and got all excited about the potty and finally got in the tub. After we finished she kept trying to climb out of the tub and actually wanted to sit back on the potty and she went again!!! I kept her in a loose fitting diaper and every now and then I waould ask if she wanted to go potty and she would drop whatever she was doing and run to the bathroom. She ended up going a total of 5 times!!!

We are going to of course be keeping her in diapers, but I am thinking about purchasing a few pairs of training pants to wear around the house over Christmas break.

I still can't believe my baby girl is using the potty!!!!

Mckinley will probably kill me some day for discussing her bathroom habits on the internet so i will be kind and I won't post any actual pictures of her using her brand new potty, but just know my sweet child if you cross me when youa re 16 and some cute boy comes to our house to pick you up you better believe I am not above pulling these pictures out!

Our Weekend

I celebrated my birthday and fell asleep at 8:00. I didn't count any points and I ate whatever I wanted.
 It was a great birthday!!

I ran an Ugly Sweater Race with the other Roxanne. We did some walking and some running. I forgot my id and some awesome girl in an old school onesie stamped her stamp on my hand and Angry Orchard is my new favorite.

We saw Santa Clause and didn't really care for him.

Last but not least we bought a potty and peed on it 5 times!
